Bulgarian Unemployment Rate Fell By 0.3% In May

Bulgaria’s jobless rate fell to 5.3pc in May from 5.6pc in the previous month as employers hired more staff for the summer holiday season and the processing industry, data from the state employment agency showed on Monday.

Some 175,399 people were unemployed in the Black Sea country of 7 million during last month and 20,533 found work.

The jobless rate was 6.1pc in May of last year.

The agency, which calculates the rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said about 1,300 people were involved in government-sponsored programmes in May.
