The Bulgarian National Revenue Agency (NRA) identified more than 30 violations during overnight inspections of 11 nightclubs in Sofia, carried out as part of its summer tax control campaign. The checks were conducted on Vitosha Boulevard, one of the capital’s busiest entertainment areas.
The violations detected included failure to issue cash receipts, discrepancies between reported and available cash, incomplete information on receipts and inaccurate reporting of business turnover. The NRA said that additional breaches could be established after further review of submitted documents and financial data.
The inspections are part of a nationwide campaign launched on June 29 to monitor compliance with tax and social security rules. Since the beginning of the campaign, NRA teams have carried out 2,063 inspections across Bulgaria, uncovering 622 violations, according to Anna Mitova, director of the agency’s Communications Directorate.
“Fiscal inspectors monitor compliance with tax and social security legislation. The campaign is not focused only on the Black Sea coast but covers all cities in the country, including Sofia,” Mitova said.
She explained that penalties depend on the type of violation. “In the event of failure to issue a receipt, the fine for the first violation is up to 2,000 euros, and in the event of a repeated violation, its amount doubles. The violation may also lead to the sealing of the commercial facility,” she added.
The NRA said the summer inspections will continue until the end of the tourist season, while regular checks will remain part of the agency’s ongoing work throughout the year.
The revenue agency also reminded consumers that they can help monitor businesses by using the NRA Mobile application, which allows users to scan QR codes on receipts. Citizens can also report missing receipts, incorrect payment documents or other tax and social security violations to the NRA’s information center.
