Takeaway.com will end its operations in Bulgaria on September 15, 2026, bringing an end to the food and goods delivery platform’s roughly 20-year presence in the country.
The company has already informed users of the decision by email. Until the shutdown date, customers will still be able to use all valid and unused vouchers, as well as completed loyalty cards with stamps.
Takeaway.com’s parent company, Just Eat Takeaway.com, said the decision is part of a broader strategy to focus investment on markets where the business sees greater potential for growth and where it can establish strong, sustainable and profitable positions.
The company’s Bulgarian operation began under the local BGmenu platform. In 2018, Just Eat Takeaway.com acquired the Bulgarian food delivery service and subsequently introduced the Takeaway.com brand to the market.
The company currently has around 220 employees and 480 couriers in Bulgaria. It said it will provide support to its employees and couriers during the process of winding down its operations.
The departure marks the end of a long-running presence in Bulgaria for one of the country’s better-known food delivery platforms, which has served customers for two decades.
